"O"

Every time I listen to Damien Rice’s album “O”, I somehow become wistful.

Wistful. A rather melancholic, thoughtful countenance.

I start to think about stories – magical, mystifying stories full of wonderful fairy dust, bizarre worlds and a good heart-wrenching plot about love found, lost, and found again. Sometimes I can can’t help but desperately want to be lost in those worlds, lost in those twisted, cynical stories full of adventure, magic, love and revenge. These thoughts were with me ever since I could remember… ever since I realized that my life was not as exciting as the books I read, that it was boring, tiresome and full of too-real problems.

Too real. I needed to escape.

The setting: a green forest, full of old trees with the ground covered in moss. The air shimmers with silver and gold dust falling from above. Soft, yellow light burst through the leaves. A clearing in the middle of forest.

The Protagonist: A girl – physically tired and hungry after a long, weary journey. Her huge eyes are tragic, full of desperation and despair with a little flicker of hope – the only thing that keeps her going.

The Antagonist: A dark entity, disguised as the light. It pursues her, wanting her, wanting what she has. It uses cunning and trickery more than force.

The Plot: a journey, a quest full of terrible horrors and dangers. Betrayal, power struggle, revenge. A cruel twist near the end reveals everything. A choice, a battle. A savior. And a happily ever after or perhaps a final, tragic fate.

A fantasy story template, isn’t it? And a life’s metaphor, if one would care to think deeper. A laughable paradox: to escape reality by going into another world based on reality. But the latter is dressed up with elements of impossibility and wonder, very attractive indeed.

Wake up, wake up. Cheers, Darlin’.

I shall sum up my vacation so far:

UAPSA National Congress in Baguio – Absolutely tiring, a bit disappointing, but a heck of a lot of fun meeting different people from all over the country. Bloody amazing race, dresses, booze corridor, and the “Maldita table” with Mafia tendencies. Hilarious. :D

Holy Week in Batangas – Spent sleeping most of the time. Pitbull dog almost killed a goat. A grand farewell to my relatives who are now in Dubai looking, hoping for a better life. Nothing “Holy” about the week.

And back to reality – Work, damnable registration system, and expected grades. Math 54 again, hoping against hope that I wouldn’t get “baklang panget”. An interesting confession and an ongoing friendship. Chopped off hair and new bathing suits. Back to Koreanovela marathon with mom.

*sigh*
